While a picture frame with large text can be a great gift - "Best Friends", "My Dog", or "Family" - it also limits the use of the frame, making it unsuitable for any other purpose than the one written on the face. |

THE "ANNIVERSARY" PICTURE FRAME
|
|
For many people, when they think of an "anniversary" picture frame, the image that immediately pops to mind is a glass or silver-plated border with the words "Happy Anniversary" etched or painted across the face. This is often the case for any specialty frame, from birthdays to best friends to pet lovers. While there is nothing wrong with giving a frame that clearly states the purpose for the gift, this bold statement detracts from the general versatility of the frame.
A beautiful picture frame presented for the occasion but not emblazoned with it can be proudly displayed for years, with a variety of images. The couple has the option to display a family photograph or a landscape image in the frame, rather than the snapshot of them that is the only logical filling for a "Happy Anniversary" frame.
If you're set on noting the reason for the gift, consider one of these options:
- Have a pretty sticker or note printed and affixed to the back of the frame which states the event, the year, and maybe even a nice message or meaningful quote.
- Make it a bit more permanent by getting the above information carved or etched into the back of the frame.
- Include with the frame a window mat with a secondary window below the image opening. This is called a Signature Mat. You can have a small metal plate engraved with the event, year, or any other information, which will be visible below the photo of the couple. If they decide to display a different image at a later time, they can simply remove the mat and plaque.
So instead of picking up a generic "Happy Anniversary" frame, why not take a look at our gift-giving checklist below, and choose truly personalize your gift by choosing a frame perfect for the happy couple.

THE GIFT-GIVING CHECKLIST
|
|
For any gift, regardless of the occasion, the gift-giver ought to take into consideration a few basic details about the future recipient. As you browse through picture frame mouldings, it's a good idea to keep these tidbits of information in mind:
- Favorite Colors: You don't have to limit your search to blue frames, or green frames, but it's helpful to know their favorite colors and shades or, perhaps more importantly, which colors they really don't like!
- Decor Style: If their house is full of stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, and stark white walls, an ornate, gold gilded, Renaissance-style picture frame might not be the ideal choice.
- Practicality: Supposing the celebrants reside in a tiny one-bedroom home that's barely 500 feet square. A gigantic, 3 foot by 4 foot picture frame might not be appreciated. You may want to opt instead for a nice 16x20" frame that's easy to hang on almost any wall.
- Other Details: What else do you know about them? Have they mentioned a stack of 8x10" family photographs they haven't gotten around to framing? A set of four matching 8x10" picture frames might be just thing! And remember: matching doesn't always mean identical.
- Extras: Don't forget to consider a Window Mat for the frame. This can be difficult to select if you don't know what picture will be framed, however. For more information, see our articles: All About Mats, Choosing the Best Mat Size, and Choosing the Best Mat Color.
