FATHER'S DAY |
|
This Father's Day, why not give your dad - or another special man in your life - a truly personalized and thoughtful gift?
Canvas Prints are a great way to meld practicality with sentimentality. Your image is printed on our real poly-cotton canvas using archival inks, then stretched around a custom-built wood frame. The prints make a great modern statement piece unframed, or give a nod to classic style framed in one of our beautiful floater or regular, solid wood picture frames.
Whether you opt for a picture of the family, or an image representing his favorite sport or hobby, Dad is certain to love his timeless decor piece that will last for generations.
PICKING THE PERFECT GIFT
It's always more fun to receive a creative, personal gift than a generic one. And it's usually just as much fun for the gift giver to pick out a really special, meaningful present.
All dads are different, and it takes a bit of time and effort to come up with the perfect image for your particular man. Here are some tips for selecting the best piece for your best pop:
- Snoop around the house. Not into drawers and closets, but try to get a feel for dad's decorating scheme. If he likes simple wallpapers and light shades, play to this theme and present him with a calm, cool image like a still ocean scene or a bucolic field at sunrise. Is he more into bold colors and styles? How about a print of his favorite classic car, or that motorcycle he's been eyeing.
- Bring up home decor-related conversations, and then listen. Does he mention an area he wishes was better decorated? Does he tell you about a color scheme he's planning? If a blank wall is a subject of despair, sneak a measurement so you can order an artwork of the perfect size.
- If you're unable to browse yourself, make use of your own knowledge or chat with other people who know them. What hobbies does he enjoy? Opt for a stunning mountani vista for the avid mountain climber, a sea-blue flax field for a gardener or farmer, or a beautiful European landscape for the serious traveller.
- Concerned about picking the right thing? Consider ordering a small image. No less thoughtful or eye-catching, a little 10x10" or 15x20" print fits perfectly in the front hall, office, or stairwell, and won't take over. Or, if you really have no idea, you can always just ask! It might not be a complete surprise, but it won't be any less appreciated.
- Once you've settled on the image, consider the presentation. Do they already have a number of canvases hanging in the home? If so, you might choose to stick with that display, or pick out one of our beautiful canvas floater frame to accentuate the picture.
- If you don't have access to the perfect image, or for any other reason you're unable to select a canvas print or frame, why not let them pick their own, on you! We offer Gift Certificates in custom denominations. We can send the recipient the code via email, or print a physical certificate and mail it straight to them!
Whatever your budget or relationship with the recipient, put some serious thought into the gift. Your efforts will be recognized and appreciated.

HISTORY OF FATHER'S DAY
Father's Day did not become a nationally recognized holiday until 1972.
There were earlier attempts and singular celebrations, such as a Virginia event in 1908 to honor the fathers who had died in a recent mine explosion. In 1908, a Spokane, WA woman who was raised by her widowed father, proposed the idea and, beginning in 1910, an annual day of recognition was held in that state.
Though various presidents encouraged the celebration, it was slow to catch on. Historians believe this was due to the proposed sentimentality of the holiday - father's simply did not share the same outward emotionality that mothers did. Since the suggested day was inspired by Mother's Day, thoughts automatically went to flowers and other gifts, and the day was seen as overtly commercialized.
In the 20s and 30s, Parent's Day was proposed to replace both Mother's and Father's Day, an idea which was quashed with the start of the Great Depression. During World War II, Father's Day was seen as a way to honor soldiers and support the war, and although it was still not a national holiday, the event became widly celebrated.
Finally, in 1972, President Nixon made Father's Day a federal holiday. Today, the day encourages more than one billion dollars in related sales, and dads everywhere score ties, tools, and candy.
